Royal Scottish Country Dance Society - Southwest Washington State Branch

Welcome to the Home Page of

RSCDS - SWWS

Next Branch Event:

Aug 31

Fifth Friday Mixer

Low Impact/Adaptive Class

Starting this Fall, the Low Impact/Adaptive Class is expanding to 2nd and 4th Tuesdays!

All dancers are welcome to these hands-on sessions of learning how to help partners, or other dancers in the same set, who may face physical challenges. Anyone, any age, can suffer accidents. Knowing how to compensate becomes critical for the comfort of all, and the success of the dance. Thus, we all can continue to enjoy moving to the rhythms of Scottish music, and partake in the social interaction of Scottish Country Dance.

7:30 PM at Columbia Dance Center, starting September 11th!

Upcoming Events:

Let's dance for health, like they do in Scotland!
Sit less, get active, make friends, move and enjoy the music.

RSCDS 2016 AGM Ball in Perth Scotland.
Here is a taste of the largest Scottish dance in the world!

Also of Note:

WE HAVE A NEW VENUE IN THE FALL! Linda Mae's Friday class is moving to a new venue and time! These classes will now be held at 7:00 PM on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Friday's of the month, at St Luke's Episcopal Church, 426 E. Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA (just a few blocks north of the Columbia Dance Center). See the Class page for more info.

OUR CLASS IN ACTION! Perhaps you've wondered what Scottish Country Dancing looks like? Well, now you can view a short video of our class dancing "Knit the Pocky".

(A "pocky" is a fingerless glove, worn to keep the hands warm while freeing the fingers for detailed tasks.)

SCD CLASS AND PERFORMANCE TEAM VIDEOS Here's a short video of members of the Vancouver WA class dancing a delightful jig, Black Donald (2nd Carnforth Coll.), at a retirement home in Januuary of 2011.

Here's a short video of The Vancouver USA SCD Performance Team dancing a medley of three dances: Alyth Burn, a jig (RSCDS Bk 3); Linnea's Strathspey, a strathspey (Tim Wilson, 2001); and Red House, a reel (RSCDS Bk 7). This video was taken at the Clark County Fair, Ridgefield, Washington, in August of 2008.
